Company Profile
& History
Barmac Contracting Ltd. is a heavy equipment construction and logging company that has been working largely in the Pembina Oilfield area since 2004. The company is locally owned and operated by Bart MacLean and Norma Block.
Bart MacLean: Started logging in the mountains of the Nimpkish Valley on Vancouver Island when he was sixteen and eventually started his own selective logging company. In his early-twenties he switched careers and began commercial fishing. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually lead him to purchase his own boats. When the forestry and commercial fishing industry in British Columbia slowed down, he made a career change and headed to Alberta in the late 90’s and began operating heavy equipment in “the Patch”. A few years later, he purchased his first piece of equipment and has watched his fleet expand to over fifty pieces.
Norma Block: Was going to high school full time and managing a local gas station when she was sixteen. Her work experience focused around the service industry where she managed several successful establishments. Eventually her entrepreneurial spirit lead her to start her own company which was expanding internationally but her husband Bart’s business was also growing rapidly and she made the decision to join him full-time.
Barmac was built on a few fundamental old fashioned values;
- An honest day’s work, for an honest day’s pay
- Treat your workers like you would like to be treated
- Give your customers the kind of service that makes them want to come back to you
